How to Measure a Bolt Pattern
A bolt pattern, also known as the lug pattern, is the number of lugs and the diameter of an imaginary circle they create at the center of the wheel.
4-lug, 6-lug, and 8-lug pattern, you need to measure from the center of one lug to the center of the opposite lug.
5-lug pattern, you need to measure from the center of one lug to the outer edge of one of the opposite lugs.
Some bolt patterns are specified in millimeters, and some in inches. When you take the measurement, make sure you account for both.
Good to Know
Important: Check the exact torque specifications in your Ford Explorer owner’s manual and re-torque the lugs after 50 to 100 miles. Use always a calibrated torque wrench.
